i once saw him speak a day-long conference called 'media wars', where he basically took the side of journalism, squaring off against media studies doods like Graeme Turner. i wasn't impressed. he wasn't much clued into the whole 'ideology' thing... as practice, anyway.
there was a bit of a bitch-fight between him and katherine lumby (someone else i'm not much struck on, but for different reasons). i ran across this bloggage on the issue today by accident. haven't read it properly, so don't get too excited just yet...
