i hope to make it to the AJC competition to see Doris kick arse, but i think we'll have to wait and see.
i also have some major ethical dilemma action: the ethically bankrupt swing patrol managers are entering the competition they are running and cannot seem to understand the problems with that. despite numerous comments from others in the dance community. their responses have included:
1) 'oh it's just for fun so it doesn't matter', which insults the vast amounts of time and money people spend on training for this comp;
2) 'they're taking a risk entering so it's ok' which is bullshit because even if they don't win, they still win in the popularity stakes element of the comp, as all swing patrol stuff is - at the end of the day - about popularity;
3)'what's wrong with that?' and that response scares me - because they simply can't understand why it's incredibly dodgy for the same people who choose the judges and dj, plan the format of the comp, have access to the list of entrants, set the comp date, benefit financially from the entry fees, etc etc etc to enter that same competition.
but there you go. swing patrol at its finest. rot it.
but i'm looking forward to hullabaloo.
