sewing sewing

MLX looms on the horizon, and it's time to start thinking about costumes. not for me. i'm totally over that shit. but for other people. i like sewing these interesting clothes. my favourite thing is making stuff that has a vintagey feel (30s and 40s of course), but is actually quite contemporary. contemporary, here, means nice to wear. i find that really vintage stuff is incredibly uncomfortable for dancing in - too many darts, too much interfacing, too much irritation.

but i'm booked to make a pair of men's trousers (which will be a challenge - i've never made a pair of proper, tailored men's trousers before) and something vintagey for a girl. i think a tartan pleated skirt is required. but that's it on the girl front.

this link has some awesome pattern pictures. but the page actually loads a pop up every time you go to it (including going back), so be warned.

meanwhile i have a pair of black trousers on the go for me. black, groovin' young people trousers, so i'll have two pairs that fit me properly and can be worn many, many times before they have to be washed.
